About Joseph

Joseph Sewell

I was born in Miami-Dade County August 14, 1957.  Music is what makes my life worth living it defines my every mood.  That's the beauty of music; the right melody over a perfect groove laid to a timely beat with the color of what I am feeling or experiencing at the moment.  This gives my music it's relevant interpretation.  For example, when I am sick, angry, left hanging, feeling pure love, feeling the loss of the love I thought would last forever.  Feeling the joy and excitement of a new love, the feeling of gratitude for being given another day to experience improved emotions that only living can bring.  This is what music sounds like to me.

My musical influences stem from the church and expands into R&B, Jazz and the Blues.  Mahalia Jackson, Marvin Gay, James Brown, New Birth, George Clinton, The Jackson 5, Bobbye Bland, Fred Hammond, Stevie Wonder and others shaped my musical heart.  I consider myself a musical nut, but very thoughtful with a live-funk groove....yea; that's me.....

I play keyboard, trumpet, bass guitar and I love, love to sing. I grew up in a local band called the Rappers.  Every summer we traveled the East Coast playing night clubs.  We opened for KC & The Sunshine Band and lost a competition on the stage of the Apollo Theatre.  I cut my teeth on gospel; I studied at Miami-Dade Jr. College, i.e., Gospel Choir and Jazz Band, this is where I learned to write and read serious music.  I also played bass and trumpet in Middle, Jr. and Sr. High School.  I played in the concert & marching band.

Oh yes, I've been playing music feels like my whole life.  I am currently an ordained retired Pastor after 40 years in ministry.  I have written love songs, songs of prayer and I find myself in the studio recording tunes that are meaningful to me.
